Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a unique specialty because it combines aspects of both medicine and dentistry. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery requires up to 6 additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduating from an accredited dental school. This extensive hospital training includes many related areas: anesthesiology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, internal medicine, emergency and trauma care.
The specialty combines basic oral surgery with comprehensive reconstructive and cosmetic facial surgery. Dr. Wittenberg, in particular, has extensive experience with all areas of specialty treatment from the simple to the complex.
