Rhinoplasty/Nose

Rhinoplasty can be performed in order to reshape the nose. The appearance can be improved for those people who are dissatisfied with the shape and size of their nose. Nasal reconstruction was one of the first cosmetic procedures ever developed and is among those most frequently performed today. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure in which deformities of the nose are corrected by removing, rearranging or reshaping bone or cartilage.

There are many reasons why a person pursues a Rhinoplasty and Dr. Wittenberg can provide you with insight as to your treatment goals. The procedure is typically accomplished under a sedation technique with incisions typically hidden inside the nose. Occasionally, a very small external incision is combined as well. The shape of the nose will be established but it can take a number of months before the final appearance is determined due to the nature of the tissues of the nose. Certainly, the primary healing time is within weeks.

Rhinoplasty for the Asian nose requires knowledge of the differing tissue contours and underlying bony support for the nose. The alteration of the nasal dorsum/top of the nose requires consideration of the facial width and eye positions. In order to keep a ‘natural’ look to the Asian nose with surgery, the balance of the width and height of the nasal tip and base of the nose must be respected. Implants or tissue fillers can be used for fine detail changes in some circumstances. The use of materials like Juvederm to augment the nasal shape is very simple and well accepted by patients. Many Asian noses do not have the ideal height on the top of the nose; so tissue fillers are a simple effective way to both enhance the nose as well as give  the visual impression so that one can move on to a more permanent implant at a later date.

Rhinoplasty is a procedure which can reduce the size and irregularities of the nose. However, the contours and the natural proportions of the bone and the cartilage must be achieved.

The Rhinoplasty procedure is often combined with other treatments such as genioplasty (chin surgery) since the overall balance of the Face must be considered in the analysis.Dr. Wittenberg will do a Total Facial Analysis and discuss your options with you.

Conditions may be natural or due to external trauma to the face. This operation will also help patients who have difficulty breathing to some extent but the results can be variable. The operation can be performed on all age groups, including teens and the elderly.
