The Specialty of OMS
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a unique specialty because it combines aspects of both medicine and dentistry. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery requires up to 6 additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduating from an accredited dental school. This extensive hospital training includes many related areas: anesthesiology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, internal medicine, emergency and trauma care.
The specialty combines basic oral surgery with comprehensive reconstructive and cosmetic facial surgery. Dr. Wittenberg, in particular, has extensive experience with all areas of specialty treatment from the simple to the complex. He has specific education in the diagnosis and management of both the hard tissue/bone and the soft tissue/skin of the face. This ability to affect the structure of the facial tissues, in combination with his extensive knowledge and experience, make Dr. Wittenberg a superior choice for your surgery.
